Admissions - Why choose B.I.S.?
You are about to embark on a new adventure
Some of you will be experiencing a new city, a new language, and a new way of life. For others, you are looking for a new kind of education. Whatever your situation, we understand that there are many choices for you and your family.
Here are some of the qualities that are special and unique about Berlin International School:
As soon as you enter our buildings, you will notice how diverse we are. Our students represent over 60 different countries and our teachers and staff represent more than 20!
While we are diverse, and many languages are spoken in the hallways, our common language is English. However, we encourage and support the learning of mother-tongue languages, as best practice shows this to be an excellent way to learn.
International Baccalaureate (IB) and IGCSE curriculum
For 10 years, B.I.S. has offered the IB Diploma. Our results are consistently above the world average and our students continue their education at many of the world’s best universities. In addition, we are officially authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). We are very proud of these excellent and world-wide accepted programmes, which prepare our students to be critical thinkers and global citizens.
Besides the international exams students at B.I.S. sit German exams such as BBR (Berufsbildungsreife) and MSA (mittlerer Schulabschluss). Students that wish to sit Abitur exams may change to Campus Steglitz (Internationale Schule Berlin).
Ideal location in the center of Berlin
Friendly and open our school campus as well as our affiliated Early Childhood Centre are only minutes away from the Kurfürstendamm (the centre of former West Berlin) as well as Tiergarten, the district were most embassies are located. We are very much a city school, housed in beautiful buildings in the elegant, village-like atmosphere of Dahlem.
Our students, teachers, and staff are friendly and welcoming. It is, in fact, an important part of B.I.S.’s mission to be tolerant of others and to “work in harmony.” We are accustomed to receiving new students to our school, and you will quickly become a part of our diverse and warm community. Our very active Parent Teacher Association is also on hand to make you feel welcome.
