School Structure

Berlin International School separates its daily operation and curriculum delivery into three sections,

The Primary School: Grades 1 - 5

The Middle School: Grades 6 - 8

The Upper School: Grades 9 - 12

A number of over-arching structures bind us together as one school in reality. These are the Director's whole school role, the Admissions Office, the Library Media Centres and the Student Support Services Team.

The B.I.S. Leadership Team comprises of the Director and the two principals. The team meets regularly and frequently to ensure a smooth and consistent operation of the school. The Director works closely with the principals in the operation of the educational programme, and in connection with staff, students, parents and the community.

The Primary Principal is assisted by the Primary Assistant Principal and the Primary Years Programme Coordinator. Together they supervise the implementation of the B.I.S. curriculum in line with the PYP curriculum, its curriculum framework and the framework of the city of Berlin (Berliner Rahmenplan). They also provide professional development and encourage their teachers to lead professional development for each other in weekly staff and collaborative meetings.

The Secondary Principal is assisted by the IB Diploma, the IGCSE and the Middle School Coordinators. He meets regularly with the Heads of Department who work with the teaching staff on a daily basis.

The complex business side of the school's operations is organised centrally by the umbrella organisation, Private Kant-Schule e.V.
