Primary School
Berlin International School offers a PYP Startersl for children five years old who are going to enter first grade the following year. Classes are taught primarily by English native speakers with the support of a German teacher for periods during the day.
The program is structured and a considerable amount of work is done to create a solid platform of readiness for reading, writing and mathematics.
In Grades 1 to 5, the program includes mathematics, language arts in English and German, general science and social studies, music, physical education, art, German as a second language and English as a second language. The student work is done under the trans-disciplinary Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. The classroom teachers are responsible for most subjects, but are assisted by specialist teachers in some areas.
The Primary School curriculum grows from a range of international settings including Australia, Britain, Germany and the United States. The curriculum is not tied to a particular national base, and it aims to take full advantage of a flexible approach where we can take full advantage of the best practices from around the world.
