Special Needs Students
Admission can be offered to students with mild/moderate educational difficulties or physical disabilities according to the limited facilities and personnel available. Initial screening, in-class and group support is provided through the Student Support Departments. Individualised and specialist support in the areas of Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychotherapy, and academic tutoring can be coordinated by the school but paid for privately by the individual families.
Students with any type of physical or educational difficulty will need to provide complete documentation of their academic history, psychological/educational evaluations, and details of extra academic/specialist support they have had or are currently receiving. Once the application information is complete the school will evaluate the application and decide if the school can meet the needs of the student. Withholding information about Special Needs may lead to cancelation of the contract.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Language placement interviews are conducted for students in Grades 1 through 9, all non-mother tongue English speakers in Grades 6 through 12 will, besides the interview, sit a written test. It should be mentioned that the EAL offering of the school might not be enough for the student to be successful in the IGCSE or IB Diploma programme. In those cases where the school’s offer of English Language Support is deemed not sufficient to guarantee full access to the academic programme of the school, parents will be asked to financially support extra provision.
Student must be in residence with at least one parent or school-approved guardian while enrolled at B.I.S. The parent or guardian must be inGermany for the purpose of employment.
