About us

It's all about the joy of learning and living in Berlin

Berlin International School is a leading, non-profit day school offering a comprehensive education program for students aged 6 to 18 in the greater Berlin and Brandenburg areas. Over 820 students from more than 60 countries attend the school’s campus (plus the affiliated Early Childhood Center/Kita International) in Dahlem, in the south-west of Berlin.

B.I.S. is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Organisation World School as well as an official exam center of Cambridge University (UK) and Collegeboard (USA) and is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), as well as the Middle States Association (MSA-CESS). Furthermore, B.I.S. is also officially approved by the Departments of Education of the city of Berlin as Grundschule und integrierte Sekundarschule.

B.I.S. is committed to excellence in education and the personal growth of every student. Our students learn in a multicultural community where each person is respected regardless of nationality, race, or religion. Students discover the world, its people, and its cultures through direct experience. Through play, study, and the relationships they form, students at B.I.S. learn to appreciate their own strengths and to respect differences rather than fear them. Combined with academic rigor, this experience extends outside the classroom and equips students for success and global citizenship beyond school.

In addition, the school provides courses and learning support services which address the needs of a student body diverse in educational background and ability. More than 90% of the graduating seniors enter universities and institutions of higher learning worldwide.

Students attending B.I.S. enjoy living in the center of Europe with a high quality of life:
Berlin is now the third most visited city in Europe behind Paris and London – it has more annual visitors than Madrid, Rome or Barcelona. This is attributed to its quality of life, its history, the beauty of its architecture and the fact that it has become known as a center for new trends and culture. Culture and art are omnipresent throughout the city – it boasts 170 museums, 130 theatres, 350 art galleries and is host to many world renowned, internationally attended events like Berlinale (International Film Festival) and Berlin Fashion Week & not to forget the Berlin Marathon. The capital draws increasing numbers of graduates thanks to the city’s renowned quality of life. Berlin’s workforce is of a first quality and internationally competitive.
