Words of welcome

We appreciate you visiting our website

On behalf of our teachers, extended community, and the school organization, welcome!

Founded in 1998, the Berlin International School (B.I.S.) is a private, not-for-profit, co-educational school of the Private Kant-Schulen Foundation that offers an international education. The languages of instruction are English and German. The school offers the the IB Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) in Grades 1-5, leading to an international middle years curriculum that culminates with Cambridge IGCSE exams in Grades 9 & 10 (as well as the Berlin state examinations Berufsbildungsreife and mittlerer Schulabschluss). The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) is facilitated in Grades 11 & 12. A bilingual version of the German Abitur can be selected at Campus Steglitz, B.I.S.’s sister school.

Guided by our Mission, B.I.S. provides challenging programs that support students in realising their academic and individual potential. Our curriculum is local and global, and develops conceptual understanding, with a strong emphasis on inquiry and academic excellence. Appreciating the needs of families looking to be grounded in the host culture while keeping a global outlook, we have the ability to differentiate to a range of needs while maintaining an inclusive environment. Against this backdrop, we are proud of our identity as an IB World School that facilitates an appreciation and respect for our shared humanity and diverse community. Through our academic programmes and extracurricular opportunities, learners at B.I.S. will also develop an awareness of their individual and collective responsibility to live sustainably.

Equal in importance is our desire to foster strong partnerships with families in support of our learners. The Principles of B.I.S. Primary and Secondary are responsible for building these bridges in the respective sections of the school, while the Director works with the CEOs of the school organization (Private Kant-Schulen Foundation) to provide strong leadership and governance for our community.

As part of our community of learners, young people at B.I.S. benefit from a nurturing environment, gaining a sense of confidence by working with an experienced and skilled staff of international professionals. Not only does this culminate in excellent academic results and placement in some of the world’s top universities, it also equates beneficial mentoring relationships for children of all ages as adults at B.I.S. model a sense of collegiality, balance, humor, and intellectual curiosity. We aspire to be a happy, exciting place where children are motivated to become successful academically, personally, and socially.

We look forward to working with you and your family. We trust your first visit to our campus, or contact with our colleagues, will be warm and welcoming.

Yours faithfully,

Richard Eaton
Director
