The ceremony was a small but impressive affair held at Körnerstraße 49; approximately 120 guests from the Berlin political scene, media and society took part. Over the next two years, 65,700 cubic meters of space will be developed and 500 kilometers of cable will be put in place. This will enable up to 600 students to learn and flourish in a new, shared space. Why? "Because space is the third teacher," Mr. Wegener noted, quoting the Italian teacher Loris Malaguzzi. This means: "A school beyond its function as a home of learning is also a living and creative space for children." Acknowledgement and praise goes to the Kant group for the visionary achievements of the last 60 years! Notable attendees were, for the Berlin House of Representatives, Florian Graf (CDU), Antje Kapek (Alliance 90 / The Greens) and Sebastian Czaja (FDP). The district mayor of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Cerstin Richter-Kotowski, also attended and thanked the Kant schools for their "fearless, open-minded, value-oriented and positive atmosphere."
